We were a little slow starting this morning - up at 10:00 and Susan somehow knew the way to a super posh bakery for buttery croissants and delectable expensive desserts which were packaged in gold print lettered boxes and we found a coffee to go. Sitting watching the huge fountain in the square we clarified that I really wanted a picture of us at the Eiffel Tower ( no one knew what I meant when I tried to pronounce this in French!) and to see the Ark De Triumph with her. This clarified (she the Myers Briggs thinker and I the feeler) were off through the streets of Paris!
Susan with a GPS on her phone (I thought it was amazing to have a camera in your phone - who would have thought?!) got us to the Seine (how does one pronounce this?) and the Musee D'Orsay to see beautiful pictures and for Sue to complete her project of taking pictures of people taking pictures of pictures. We then found a pleasant Brasierie for a sandwich and a beer. Sandwiches usually cost 6 Euro ( $12. Canadian!) but one has to eat. Thus fortified we made our way to the Tour Eiffel. We lost sight of it a few times but then turning a corner it would suddenly come into view and then we would lose it again only to figure out what road to take to see it again. This was all done while enjoying the buns or pastries found along the way.
Being beside the Eiffel tower makes one realize they are truly in Paris France as travel is so fast and easy (relatively) that it is difficile to really comprehend ones foot on another continent.
Later that day we also saw a demonstration regarding Sri Lanka, the Arc De Triomphe, sat on the steps of the Palais De Chaillot, saw the shopping district that Kjartan informed Susan about through text messages from London(!), had a dinner of quiche and stuffed tomatoes, beer and smoothy, rested at a street table for refreshments and managed to get back to the hotel pretending our feet were not sore and our legs could still move. To bed at 1am and 3am.
