Friday April 17 - Last Day in London - sniff sniff

Susan and I spent our last day together in London (hopefully we'll do this again) touring the neighbourhood, took pictures of the pub and had breakfast at a cafe where Susan tried salt (not on purpose) in her coffee - it won't be catching on! We made a stop at the photocopier and then we walked about Findsbury park where Sue fought with the Canadian goose - huge park with lots to see. Then off to the underground for trip to Heathrow and sadly last hug with Sue. During the flight home I watched movies - Doubt, and Australia.
Best moments of the trip? - Seeing my daughter's happy smile, rediscovering her wonderful values, character, communication skills and talents - including her being the best tour guide, itinerary maker and planner in Europe, and creative artist oh yes and I really liked the Eiffel Tower and the pretty pictures in the Art Galleries!

Thursday April 16 Back in London

Susan is teaching me how to make THE face. She is much better at it than I!

We woke about 10:00 and decided on breakfast in Hampstead where we found Fitzroy Patisserie which had as delicious pasteries as we ever found in Paris - we discovered they had a French baker - and Susan took me to see her favourite tree in all the world - and as she is very travelled I was impressed. However, as magnificent a tree as it was it seemed to give off a very sad energy - strange but beautiful!
Sue took me to Slade University and gave me a grand tour. It made me want to paint something other than walls! I met her lovely friend Cici and saw the birds with skeleton feet.
In the afternoon we made it in time for posh tea and fancy cucumber sandwiches. We had lots of laughs with Kjartan and then a walk through Kensington Park before it got dark. We managed a pint at Susan's neighbourhood pub and then a delicious Indian vegetarian dinner back at the flat while watching Law And Order, sharing pictures, and organizing for my flight home tomorrow. Cable is free in London but each household has to pay a heafty tax to have a TV in use in their home but luckily students are not taxed.

Here we are in Susan's neighbourhood pub - they with their beer and I with my perrier water. It just looks like beer.

Another Day in Paris - Wednesday April 15

So much to see and so little time! Susan had shopping to do in Paris. I had to see the Louvre, the Cimetiere Du Pere La Chaise, Musee Picasso, Notre Dame and Jardin des Tuileries and any other sight I could cram in! Sue hoped to meet for lunch but I know how good I am at getting lost so could not ensure I could be anywhere at any determined time (right Fred?) Susan had oriented me to map reading and noting the direction the pictures of buildings were on the map and this was essential to my finding a few of the above spots. First stop was Notre Dame for a tour and Mass. Then on to the wonderful calm Tuileries Gardens with chairs set around the fountain for a few minutes rest before I began the Louvre tour (I thought those audios were going to be easy to use!?) I passed by the smaller fountain to watch the children using sticks to keep their sailboats on the water. Ah if it was only that easy!
The bus 69 would have gotten me to the cemetery where famous people were buried and to see the splendid tombstones but I opted for the Art Gallery. At this museum too, people were taking camera and video pictures of the nice pictures and sculptures - the Mona Lisa and the statue of Venus De Milo reside there.
I managed to find my way back to the hotel in time to collapse and rest up so I could pretend I was not exhausted before Susan returned. But it did not work - we were both tired and though Susan had organizedly gotten underground tickets to get us to the Eurostar we took a very relaxing and energy saving taxi!
The Eurostar can travel at 300 km/hr and had us back in London in about two hours. Sue met a friend at her local pub and I did some interneting. Love that bed!
